Canopy Seminar Series and Dialogues on the Impact of Going Plant-Based, 21-24 May 2024
Lunch-lectures on the Plant-Based diet and transition towards more sustainable food systems.
From May 21 to May 24, a series of seminar lunch on and around the topic of Transition towards Plant-Based diet will be held on the Radboud campus.
This lecture series explores the diverse reasons why we need to transition to a plant-based food system, shows us how to get the right plant-based nutrition, and sketches what the transition to 100% plant-based catering could look like at Radboud University with Erasmus University as an example. Plant-Based Universities campaigns for universities to become 100% Plant-Based because they have a special responsibility to follow climate science, which states that we cannot solve the climate crisis without also transitioning to a plant-based food system.

About the Plant-Based University Campaign:
’We are a student-led campaign for all university catering facilities to transition 100% of their menus to plant-based in order to limit the university’s contribution to the climate and ecological emergency and shift public opinion in favour of a plant-based food system.
Universities have significant cultural capital, and their actions have a great influence over the broader ethical views and sustainable practices in society.
They educate the leaders of our future and are the very institutions where much of our research and understanding of the climate crisis emerges.
Currently, universities act to legitimise the industries of animal agriculture and fishing, and this needs to change.
If we can make universities adopt fully plant-based menus, we set an example to the government and other institutions on how to genuinely act on the climate and ecological emergencies. See the press section of our website for an inventory of our successes across international campuses so far.
The student population are statistically the most likely demographic to be supportive of plant-based food for environmental reasons, and there is also a long history and tradition of student activism and radicalism. Just like universities were among the first institutions to divest from fossil fuels, they can be the first to divest from animal agriculture.’
